Wildemar Dangcil, 37, of Jersey City surrendered to city Detective Kley Peralta early Thursday evening in Teterboro after police found his car abandoned at a Little Ferry shopping center, Capt. Peter Busciglio said.
His ex-wife was parked in her car in the driveway outside her Kent Street home around 5:30 p.m. when Dangcil, of Gifford Avenue, poured the gasoline from a red plastic container around it, Busciglio said.
"She was able to exit her vehicle and gain entry into her home," the captain said.
After that, he said, Dangcil "began pouring it around the house," he said.
He took off before lighting it when police called by the ex-wife arrived, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
Dangcil remained held Tuesday in the Bergen County Jail, charged with aggravated arson, making terroristic threats, eluding and violating a restraining order, after a judge denied his release following a detention hearing the day before.
The Bergen County prosecutor's Arson Investigations Unit was assisting city police, Busciglio said.
